Capri Me

The snow has melted, cheeks are still rosy and I am so ready for Spring/Summer I'm tempted to go the full hog with the Capri inspired items languishing in my online wish lists. I've always been more of a winter dresser than a lover of skimpy hemlines and baring flesh. Truth be told, I think it's more of a beauty thing. Having to shave my legs every other day, feet maintenance, humidity appropriate make up yadda yadda. It's all such a chore.. Guys have it so easy!

Then there was Tory Burch's SS13 collection. As soon as I clapped eyes on the swinging pom poms, intricate embroidery and exotic embellishment Summer was in the room. Even going back to it today makes me feel all warm and tropical, despite the arctic takeover we have found ourselves in as of late. The all American designer swept me off my slippered feet and transported me to Capri's Marina Grande. The sun on my back, only peering above my sunglasses to catch a clearer glimpse of the yachts sailing in and out of the harbour whist I sip on my second (probably third) rose. Oh life.

'Her girl, she said at a preview at her studio, is "classic in spirit, but a bit of a traveler." She has a "magpie sensibility." She's a souvenir collector. Hence the ethnic embellishments and accessories scattered throughout. The tie-dye skirts and dresses were made by a collective of artisan women in Guinea, the rings on each girl's fingers in Ghana. Burch's take on the smoking slipper came courtesy of the original version from Morocco, where, not coincidentally, she spent some time herself this summer.'

The fabulous transitional pieces are what makes this collection so great. The 3/4 armed crisp white tunic neatly topped with embellishment from shoulder to cuff and around the hem (look 15) is one of the stars for me. The perfect travel top. A bit of glam, yet practical for the chilly cabin air con. It would be equally perfect for our less than tropical Spring evenings. Dress down with jeans or up with a blood red mini. (Who am I trying to convince here?!)

The opulent jewellery given an eclectic twist with peppered pom poms has inspired me to update my own jewels. Stay tuned for some crafty updates!

..and did I mention the hair?

This is how you deal with the snow. Technicolour duffle coat, check. Thick knit snood, check. Nude lips, bed hair and knowing glow.. We have a full house.

Take that grey skies. Pow pow!!

DDD Dress

Sweeping strokes of golden appliqué wrapped around a peppering of coloured embellishment. 3/4 sleeves, nipped in at the waist and the neatest little collar you will ever see on a dress that costs £89.

The perfect dress for a bit of DDD (Dinner, Drinks and a Dance). Just as well it's my BFF's birthday next weekend. I'm after some orangey-red shoes to match the orangey-red embellishment and my orangey-red lipstick.

So here we are, over a month down the line from the last post. How did this happen? How did the 22nd November turn into 29th December?!

I guess that's what happens when you get up at six, and get home fourteen hours later during the week. All for the love of what I was doing in-between those hours though. Any ideas I had were implemented in the day job... and my dearest blog was left alone. Readership dwindling, and making me look like a right  tosser for not making the effort every now and again.

I definitely had plans to blog throughout my internship at ASOS. Oh yes... Great plans. If anything, I know that that's what a lot of you would like to read about. But contrary to popular belief, I'm pretty private when it comes to my actual life. Aside from the the odd Instagram or Facebook/Twitter update, I like to keep everything else for me, and my own thoughts. Don't want anyone else's thought's imposing on mine do I?!

Most friends and even family have no idea what I get up do day to day, and when they ask, I give them a snippet. Not wholly intentional, it just comes naturally. I mention something in a meet with the girls, to responses of "Why don't we know about this?!".. Just didn't enter my head to tell you, really. Is that weird??

So that's probably why I haven't documented the last three months on here.

BUT. We're now in the sandwich of the Christmas break (in-between Christmas Day and NYE)... aka, the boring bit. I've drunk enough prosecco, ate enough biscuits, chocolates, mince pies, and various versions of, lets face it, a turkey sandwich to know that I'm on the home straight. Back to London where I will be starting at Grazia. Maybe I'll make it my new years resolution to be a bit more transparent day to day? I'll try.
And God loves a trier. Apaz.
