Canary Lover - Yellow Street Style

I have been a long time fan of this street style blogger image. Nothing makes me want to jump up and scour the high street for a canary counterpart to vaguely mirror this very special ensemble more. Bijoux Bazaar stocks the jewels.. so now I MUST find a knit/over coat of this nature. It would be the right thing to do.

Marie Claire Australia does Feathered Separates

Feathers are my go-to for an instant injection of sophistication, with casual feathers, say, an ostrich plume skirt paired with a chunky knit, my number one trend for the winter months. It's the movement that transforms an outfit.. and with skirted offerings infused with a melange of berry sequins and even in flared trouser form, what's not to love about Australian Marie Claire's spread dedicated to feathered separates?! Just divine (and totally pin-able).

Update : Tonight's dinner attire. Thanks for the inspo MC Aus!..

Necklace : Bijoux Bazaar

Knit : H&M

Skirt : Topshop

Shine On in Party Season Metallics!

We are officially half way through November. There are mutterings of the 'Christmas Doo' in the office, and annoyance of pre December festive chatter soon turns to absolute panic over what to wear. Personally, I take Christmas as the perfect excuse to go all out on my shiny, magpie intuition and wear head to toe metallics, sequins and shine. I've compiled a little outfit plan, as preparation is my middle name, when it comes to outfits at least. Sunglasses may be required.

Necklace - £26.00 Bijoux Bazaar

Top - £45.00 Topshop

Skirt - £39.99 Zara

Bag - £12.99 New Look

Shoes - £59.99 Zara

Wow! I don't know why, but not blogging for over a month seems to be doing my stats the world of good... are you trying to tell me something?! I have been tweeting a lot recently, so I guess I'll put it down to that.

The last month has all been about work work work. Bijoux Bazaar has launched, and with a response more successful than what even my delusional little brain had conjured up, I've been flapping around like a headless chicken answering emails, sending sample requests to mags and celebs, and, most importantly, making sure our super rad customers get their jewels on time. It has been quite the month.

So, I just thought I'd pop by really. Sy hello, update you all and catch up on my blogroll. You really are a fabulous bunch, aren't you?! I feel totally out of the loop.. but enjoy a Friday night blog marathon.

Here are some snaps of what things have turned into. This is kind of my life. I kinda love it..

Bijoux Bazaar

Helloooo! Remember me? Yes.. I've been away for quite some time. Soz 'n' chips and all that.

If you remember, my last post was all about entrepreneurialism, creating your own career and all that good stuff that lots of Uni's should be teaching nowadays. Well, I took my own advice and am almost ready to set up my own online jewellery retailer Bijoux Bazaar.

After allllll of my internships at companies such as ASOS and fantastic opportunities at the likes of Company Magazine and Grazia, I decided to put all I have learned to good use and launch something that A.. I feel there is a need and space for, and B.. That will feed into my passion and fulfil me every day.

The mini website is almost ready to launch, I'm just waiting for the last few designs to be delivered. I hope to grow quickly, soon with a strong editorial platform and maybe even a team by my side.

You can get me tweeting @BijouxBazaarUK

We also have a Facebook page which I'd LOVE for you to like and follow here!

We'll be doing a lot of giveaways in the next few weeks, so give us a like and a follow to be in it to win it as they do say..

Here is a sneaky pic of some of our loot.. I hope you love!

One of the most important things I wanted for Bijoux Bazaar was that our products are affordable. Our prices will range from £6 for a bangle or a pair of cocktail studs, to £30 for a huge statement jewel necklace. Look out for us featured in your fave mags.. and please feel free to message us on any of our social media sites, or on our blog bijouxbazaaruk.blogspot.co.uk.

I've also recently been invited to have my own fashion column in Cardiff Times.. So if you're in or around the beautiful city.. grab yourself a copy! It's on page 11 of this issue.. and features some Bijoux Bazaar goodies of course!

Are Entrepreneurs the new Bloggers?

Whilst indulging in my early morning ritual of Twitter feed perusing, I can't help but notice how my following interests have changed. Gone are the days of celebrity stalking and fashion blogger swooning, as my attention has taken a turn towards the world of entrepreneurs.

Sure, the continued success of programmes such as The Apprentice and Dragon's Den will have bumped up the public's interest, but I think the alarming ratio of graduates to jobs has a lot to answer for.

Students go through Uni with their dream career constantly within their sights. They think that if they stay within the comforts of the right degree, and ample experience then they are pretty much guaranteed a job the moment that certificate is placed into their hands after the tapping of the cap to a round of applause. The difference is that there are just not enough jobs to go around. Some students find themselves having to settle for the gloomy world of retail whilst others trot off to pastures new to unpaid internships funded by their parents (guilty). The reality is though, that at some point that bubble will also burst.

So what's a girl/boy to do with the skill, knowledge, and experience required for the non existent role? Well, here's a thought... why not create it for yourself? It is safe to say that we are in the era of the 'start up'. People are slowly coming to realise that in order to get their dream job, then they are going to have to create it for themselves. It's amazing what a bit of brainstorming can achieve.

As a recent graduate myself, I'm trying to lay down the foundations of my future (still seeking planning permission). My graduation from a creative industries University meant that I studied alongside photographers, filmmakers, illustrators, fashion designers, marketers, graphic designers amongst other disciplines. I had already worked alongside many of these to create my magazine, Grandeur. It would be stupid for me not to take advantage of the group of talent that immediately surrounds me, and them the same.

So in answer to my own question, I don't think entrepreneurs are the new bloggers as in all honesty, they really are quite different. Some have even started to blur the lines and used their new found blogger fame to generate income. I do, however, think that it's time for a shift in focus as we introduce another aspirational genre of people to our noisy graduate worlds. Let's take it up a notch.

Check out your local council's websites for courses and business grants. I've been able to attend a 4 day business start-up course, and assigned a business advisor to help me along my way on my venture.

If you are an entrepreneur working in any industry reading this, and would like to share your story on here, you're more than welcome to reach out to me at LucySmith_Fashion@Hotmail.com.

Jetting off for a week in the sun.. I will leave you with a snap of my holiday jewels.. Totally worth paying the extra luggage weight allowance for ;)

I'll see you in a week with some tropical outfit posts.

Sayonara!

Worldwide Wardrobe

The sun is out!... Oh, it's cloudy again. -The story of our lives right here in the UK. It's so hard to get dressed in the morning right now, don't you think?! I've created so many 'wish list' outfits, dreaming of Californian style rays and sun-kissed shoulders... Wouldn't it be so great if they became a reality?!

Well, ladies, now they can be! Travelsupermarket.com have launched a fantastic competition to give away five holidays to five lucky fashion bloggers! The challenge is to create looks for the following destinations:

  • Sightseeing in Paris
  • Clubbing in Ibiza
  • Shopping in London
  • Cocktails in New York
  • Partying at a Full Moon party in Thailand

  • Each category winner will win a dream trip to the destination their outfit was inspired by, plus £200 to buy the outfit. You can enter all five categories, or just one or two, it's entirely up to you!

  • Here are my entries:

  • SIGHTSEEING IN PARIS

Home to the classy and fabulous, I thought this jumper from Topshop would be perfect to roam the streets of Paris. It injects a bit of fun, whilst the shorts and gold accents add the 'fash' to the ensemble.

    CLUBBING IN IBIZA

Print on print and not much else.

    SHOPPING IN LONDON

A neutral palette with a textured edge, this watered down ensemble would look just as great mooching around the cobbled streets of Soho as rifling for vintage gems in the East End. The embellished top could take the outfit from day to night, from table top dancing in Camden's cuban bar, to kicking back and slurping on cocktails whilst people watching in Covent Garden.

  • NEW YORK

  • Top // £34 // Topshop

  • Skirt // £39.99 // Zara

  • Clutch Bag // £39.99 // Zara

  • Shoes // £58 // Asos

  • Nail Varnish // £5 // Topshop

  • Necklace // £8 // loveheartsandcrosses.co.uk

  • So my uniform of choice for cocktails in NYC would be a twirl worthy floral number, set off by whites and popping red accessories. The wishbone necklace serves as the perfect outfit topper as it's delicate enough not to compete with the skirt, and nods to the silver studs in the shoes.

  • THAILAND

  • Bikini Top // £15 // River Island

  • Hair Chain // £28 // River Island

  • Shorts // £32 // Topshop

  • Sandals // £84.84 // Nasty Gal

  • Bracelets (x3) // £12 each // Debenhams

  • As soon as I clapped eyes on this hair chain I new I needed to find somewhere to wear it.. and where better than a party on a beach where inhibitions are scarce, and spirits are high? Nasty Gal have hit the jackpot with these tassel sandals.. Practical and cool (practi-cool, if you will), these flats will last me right through 'till the moon goes down and the sun goes up.

  • So, that's me done. Five outfits for five holidays... Which one is your fave?? Now it's time for you to enter too.

  • Here's how you do it :

  • 1. Publish a Worldwide Wardrobe post on your blog including an outfit and accessories for the five different destinations, explaining why you chose each look.

  • 2. Make sure you mention ther competition page within your post so your fellow bloggers will know how to enter - www.travelsupermarket.com/c/holidays/worldwide-wardrobe/

  • 3. Nominate 5 fellow bloggers that you think will be up for the challenge and let them know via Facebook or Twitter (#worldwidewardrobe)

  • I have nominated:

  • Mia
  • Jillie
  • Eve
  • Katie
  • Shona

  • 4. The closing date for entries is 5th June 2013 and you can let them know you have entered by emailing worldwidewardrobe@ travelsupermarket.com with a link to your post OR Tweeting @travelsupermkt with the hashtag #worldwidewardrobe with a link to your post OR tagging the TravelSupermarket.com Facebook page in a post linking to the blog post that you are entering.

  • GOOD LUCK!

    The Clarins Girls

Born with A game. Beauty, brains and success were inevitable for these ladies. Some girls have all the fun.

    Dungaree Me

I've always considered the dungaree the uniform of the over indulged and uninspired. The reason so may 90s 3 year olds voluntarily wet themselves in nursery due to those ridiculous metal clip thingys that were IMPOSSIBLE to negotiate with tiny chalk filled hands (or so I've heard). It was also what Rachel wore after she left her fiancé at the altar, had to cut up her credit cards and get a job serving her friends coffee. I had no desire to join this club. And in there, my friends lies it's beauty.

The original double denim (like you had a choice) has now been transformed into buttery soft leather worn over dropped arm holes and pared with cab to curb heels. My fingers are now big enough to manoeuvre the clips, and I'd happily serve coffee if it meant I'd look like this. The fickleness of fashion rears it's ugly head yet again. One lump or two?

    Sunday 7 April 2013

New Zara necklace. The Spanish, designer-style threads have had me in a spin for the last year and a half.. I'll often leave the house, soon realising that I'm head to toe in the stuff. It's the only place I tend to head on the high street to pick up a chic but cost friendly piece of jewellery... Topshop has gone so samey, and you can spot the brand details a mile off. Zara takes the crown for me this season.

ASOS do it again. Holy Moly door knocker knock outs.

I love Net-a-porter, I really, really do. When I've ever got an extra bit of cash (very rare these days) I'll head on over to see what investment piece I can get my mitts on. Door knocker earring's are still the accessory of the season, and I always find myself having a virtual window shop.. scrolling down oohing and ahhing at the offerings of Kenneth Jay Lane and Erickson Beamon. Full of sparkly delights.. Aladdin's cave ain't got nothing on my Net-a-porter wish list! A deep breath later, I mosey on over to ASOS to satisfy my craving... How amazing have their jewellery offerings been as of late?! Don't get me wrong.. the quality most definitely reflects the price, but for something I'm only ever going to wear a handful of times, that's a compromise I'm willing to make.
Take a look at the comparison yourself.. God bless the British (virtual) high street.

The Marbled Stone Drop Earrings are already on their way to me!..I'm calling it a late Easter present as I did not receive one chocolate egg this year!

Easter weekend with Louis Vuitton checks and YSL vintage

Just a quick outfit post today. I have been SO busy as of late, blogging has taken a bit of a back seat. I've been busy making plans for my future, and now I've finally decided where I'm heading it's all hands on deck. More to come on that little gem (hint)...

Anyway, I picked up this knitted dress on ASOS. I instantly thought Louis Vuitton checks as soon as I spotted it, and I thought the baby blue was so perfect for the easter weekend I couldn't resist! It's exclusive to their Petite range so I was worried that it would be super short, but standing at 5ft 4 the length was fine on me. I teamed it with some vintage YSL earrings and a belt that I wore as a necklace.

I hope you all had a fabulous Easter!

Label Love // Ek Thongprasert Jewellery

Anyone that knows me personally will know that jewellery is kiiiind of my 'thing'. They say that love lies in the details.. and this statement is no truer than when it comes to dressing. Accessories more than often make an outfit, wether it's to pull out a colour or to dress up an LBD... I think choice of accessories can tell you so much about a person's taste.

So. Let me introduce you to Ek Thongprasert, a Belgian jewellery brand that uses silicone to create heirloom silhouettes infused with coloured cubic zirconia's. I love them! Their colour combinations are so perfect and a great addition to any Summer wardrobe. Net-a-porter have picked up the brand and should be fully stocked soon! The price is a little to be desired, I know, but I think the statement 'Buy Less, Choose Well' should apply here.

    Benefit #FakeUp Launch

On Tuesday evening I was invited to Benefit's Fake Up launch event. As a strictly fashion only blogger, I was a bit dubious about attending at first as, quite frankly I know nadda about make up. I'm not accustom to any fancy, technical words and am more of a 'I know what I like and I like what I know' kinda gal when it comes to stuff I put on my face. I soon came to the realisation that actually, attending something like this could teach me a thing or two, and aid me in my fear of the unknown. ..And who the heck am I to turn down an invite from Benefit? Home of 'They're Real' mascara and what turned out to be the sweetest PR, social media and make up gurus, like, ever.

Throughout the evening we sipped prosecco, nibbled on canapés (I instantly regretted the last minute Mc D's drop in before we arrived) and chatted to the various Benefit girls and bloggers, vloggers et al .

The point of the event was the launch of their new Fake Up concealer. Basically, all you need to know is it was used all over Cara Delevingne for Matthew Williamson's Feb AW '13 show to make her look like this after partying with Rhi Rhi the night before...

Lisa, the Head Makeup, Trend Artist and Brow Expert (and who is responsible for the above glow) demonstrated how to use the product and gave us a few pointers on what makes it so bloody fabulous.

We left with the best goody bag.. Fake Up and Hello Flawless powder cover up (as it's the product's one year anniversary!)

Fact #1 // You can use the stick on any part of your face. Sweep it under the eyes like you would a normal concealer, and blend in. The difference really is amazing, and you can see the healthy glow almost instantaneously. It's great for around the nose area, and is perfect for any redness, rosacia and blemishes.

Fact #2 // The concealer is encased in a hydrating ring of balm. Again, making it perfect for the around the nose area. I have a horrid cold due to this even more horrid weather we've been having lately. This not only covers up the redness but soothes dry skin from all that nose wiping.. gross but true.

Fact #3 // The sticks come in three different shades. Light, Medium and Deep. Lisa explained that by taking one little step outside of the box, you can use them to contour. If you're a fan of contouring, or want to, but find it a bit complicated, Fake Up concealer actually makes it so simple! Using the Deep stick, swipe a line under both cheek bones. Blend it in, noticing almost immediately that extra definition. It works really well on the skin for a day look as its so light and hydrating. Lisa recommends that you buff in your foundation over the top (-always contour under your foundation, doing it over the top makes it way too obvious).

The medium shade of Fake Up that I was matched with. -Note the hydrating ring.

Fact #4 // The product is £18.50 each and launches on 30th March, with a HUGE waiting list already, so get down to your nearest Benefit counter and pop your names down ladies!

Fake Up was launched in America this week and word is it's all sold out already!.. Out with Touche Éclat, in with Fake Up!

I'll finish with this beaut view I snapped from the 27th floor of the Grape & Olive.. great venue, great product, great company.
